We all know that feeling when we spot a classic car, we oh and ah over it, pointing it out for all passengers to see...
Classic cars are masterpieces and we cannot help but drool over them, but what do you need to do prior to buying one? I can tell you one thing you'll need, and that is money and lots of it!
10+1 Things To Think About When Buying A Classic Car
It is all too easy to become mesmerized by the look of a classic car that we may overlook some essentials about the vehicle. I should know, because that is how I ended up with my rust bucket.
Essentials that can make the difference between driving a classic car or finding a complete dumpster fire.
You seem like you would rather drive it, so before you do, here are some things to consider.
1. Is The paint good? Is it bubbling up and looking like a mess? If so you got rust.
2. Do the doors open and shut smoothly? If not it has been in a wreck... several times..
3. Use a magnet to ensure no body filler was used for dings or rust. Make sure you check around the windows!
4. Are all tires the same size? How do their treads look? Who cares about the tires!? They are about to be roasted off of the car anyway when you drop a massive 454 into that sucka!
5. How does the vehicle sit? Is it leveled or does it have that lean to it? Cause if it has that lean to it, there is something messed up with that thing! Just move along and find you another.
6. Bounce each corner of the classic car, does it bounce or make a cracking noise? If it makes a cracking noise, that's ten thousand off.
7. Check the gas cap and if there is a gas nozzle as most States require this. Make sure it has a full tank! Some people want to take their gas with them when they sell you their piece of junk.
8. Review all functionalities, does everything work as they should? Does the car even run that's the most important thing! Everything else can be fixed.
9. Check over the engine, are there any leaks, black paint (used to cover up repairs), bolts or screws missing? If it has black paint, just request the seller if you can put the car in the air before you buy it. This will bring out all of the skeletons.
10. Look under the vehicle, is anything missing? Any fluids discovered, or rust? Is the floor still there or has it been eaten away by awful, terrible, and disgusting rust?
+1. You need money and lots of it! Classic cars are expensive! Like really expensive. Like they are like black holes of death for your bank account, your life, and your sanity. Just buy that new Corvette you've always wanted and just be happy...
It is one thing to oh and ah over a classic car and another to actually buy one. There is a lot to consider besides estethics.
You need to be familiar with that specific car to know about its framework, body, suspension, engine, and so much more.
Hopefully, these 10+1 things to think about when buying a classic car will help you and get the wheels turning in your head of what to really look for when buying a classic car. If you do buy one, just buy one that has been resto-moded. You will thank me later.
